What is work, labor, daily life, priority

Posted on: February 16th, 2013 by Tom Pattillo No Comments

Daily life (not called “work” per se) was not about living, it was just living. Work is a new term in the sense of the goal of education as we know it today, came about as a response to the industrial revolution requiring disciplined workers to serve the machinery, in all connotations of the word machinery. Studs Terkel describes “work” for the industrialized society’s perspective. But 2013, information society and beyond. Same box: job, work, money, success, more, more, more, more money – bigger success, the seduction of the masses (the 99%) into buying lottery tickets; wasting/throwing their money away to fill government coffers. Greed. What is the box, the paradigm that makes the above the reality. If that’s what is in the box, what might be outside the box. Ummm

Paradigm – Food distribution

Is there any reason, given the amount of food not consumed in the advanced world, (thrown away), could not be converted to biomass and sent for consumption elsewhere . . . except as has been said by Malthus, you feed people more, you get more people and on and on and on and on. What is the paradigm about world population growth that must be considered? What is the current paradigm . . . why is there starvation, can we change to the better without Brave New World, or 1984, or ethic cleansing, or chemical, biological or nuclear methods?
This another of those big boxes out “there” that has become its own self reference. What is, is, because it is.
I was going to say: “Food for thought.”
But this is food for the world, food for a sustainable population; a sustainable population: healthy, safe, living lives of challenge, reward, relaxation and fulfillment. (With reference to, but not as perfect as, one of Star Trek: The Next Generation’s “Perfect Worlds.”

Assumptions

Political Parties

Assumptions

What assumptions have unpinned my world view paradigm? The best ideas come from those immersed in the profession and the worst from those who have the power in the organization. What really is the value of the Stock Market paradigm in 2013? Everything I read indicates that the automatic trading programs take all reality out of the whole concept of raising money, reward the successful entrepreneurs . . . the paradigm is self-fulfilling? And . . . it is big box, how does one a) perceive the whole “box”, get under the box, get in the box, or make all the walls transparent. And economists are routinely said to be irrelevant, make meaning out of meaningless. Projecting what will happen on February 14th on February 15th!

The Paradigm has no edges.

At 61, I see the affairs of the world from a reasonably long(?) perspective. The paradigm of the world seems wrong. Business, government, education, international conflict, climate change, medicine, politics . . . it all seems like a big box
